Trauma Counseling
Online Counseling for Adults Across Idaho
What happened is long over with, yet it keeps coming back in ways you never expected.
You get triggered at little things that never bothered you before and it’s starting to impact your relationships. The guilt you feel about it makes it feel even worse.
Does this sound like you?
You feel on guard all the time, waiting for something bad to happen
You’ve lost trust in yourself
Even the little things feel like too much stress
You feel disconnected and numb
You carry a lot of shame and guilt that doesn’t make sense
Your body is tight and tense even when you are trying to relax
These are only a few of the many ways trauma can present and how you might be noticing it.
What we do in Session:
Symptoms of trauma are exhausting, and sometimes they build over time and start to feel so normal that we forget what it felt like before. It takes time to slow down, get curious and turn inward to learn how dramatic events from the past have led to these adapted ways of functioning.
Trauma is about a loss of connection, both to yourself and others. We will work to gain more confidence and connection to self and your life and improve your general sense of well-being.
Through parts (IFS) Internal Family Systems work you will get to know and understand through a caring and compassionate way, how parts like frustration or hypervigilance have been trying to keep you safe. You change your relationship with these parts of yourself as you heal. This begins to change behaviors and relationships externally as well.
What Getting Better Looks Like:
The goal isn’t to forget what happened. It’s to stop living as if it is currently happening. And it’s not about getting rid of parts of you but healing the wounds.
Clients who’ve processed trauma through parts work with Internal Family Systems (IFS) respond to triggers differently. They are able to breathe and relax more easily. They notice when they are over worrying and get curious about it instead of beating themselves up over it. They find more compassion for themselves.
